A New WhatsApp Channel — and a Promise to Ditch the Jargon

Two changes are coming from Modality Mid Sussex that our committee has been pushing for: a faster way to get updates, and messages that are easier to actually understand.

What's changing

The practice will soon launch an information-only WhatsApp channel, giving patients a quick way to receive updates directly. At the same time, following discussion at our April 2026 meeting, the practice has committed to using “Plain English” — removing jargon and confusing acronyms from patient-facing messages going forward.

What it means for patients

You'll be able to get quick practice updates through a channel many people already use every day, and when you do receive a message — whether about an appointment, a test, or a service change — it should be written in plain language rather than NHS shorthand that's hard to follow.

We also raised a related issue: hospital and GP systems don't always “talk” to each other, which can make it confusing to track things like test results across different parts of the NHS. The practice is looking at ways to make this less confusing for patients, and it's something we'll continue to monitor.

What the PPG did

We pushed for clearer, jargon-free communication at committee level, and will keep tracking how the new WhatsApp channel and the plain-English commitment play out in practice — let us know if you spot a message that could be clearer.
